Central Islip, N.Y. – The Somerset Patriots (27-19) dropped the series-finale 5-3 to the Long Island Ducks (29-16) Thursday night at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Ducks struck first in the bottom of the second inning on a two-run home run from Hector Sanchez (3). Ray Fuentes (4) doubled the Long Island lead in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run to right-center field.
Somerset answered the next half-inning with a two-run home run from Michael Crouse (2), but the Ducks got a run back in the bottom of the fifth on David Washington’s two-out RBI double.
The Patriots got a run back on a Ramon Flores (2) solo home run in the eighth inning, but would get no closer.
Alec Asher (W, 4-1) allowed two runs (one earned) over seven innings to earn the win. Ryan Kussmaul (L, 1-1) surrendered four runs over four innings to take the loss. Josh Lueke (S, 3) earned the save with a scoreless ninth inning.
The 2019 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue on the road until Friday, June 14th when the team returns to TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 pm game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, including a postgame fireworks show.
