Surveillance Video Leads to Arrest of Alleged Jewelry Thief

A Somerset man faces theft and criminal mischief charges for allegedly stealing jewelry worth more than $6,000 at a Cedar Brook Drive home.

Archie Ashley, 26, was arrested after he was seen on surveillance tapes removing items from the home, according to an affidavit filed in Superior Court, Somerville by Franklin Det. Kenneth Daly.

Daly wrote that police were notified of the burglary on June 20. The building in which the victim lives has camera surveillance, so police were able to watch the surveillance tapes and identify Ashley.

Daly said that Ashley gained entry by smashing in a sliding glass door window with a paver brick.

Daly said the video showed Ashley entering and leaving the home twice, carrying a backpack and a jewelry box.

Daly said the box was eventually found by a stand of trees in a nearby field.
