Memorial Day Parade Plans Include ‘Abe Lincoln,’ Helicopter Flyover
A reading of the Gettysburg Address and a flyover by a Coast Guard helicopter are two of the highlights planned for the township’s annual Memorial Day parade on May 27.
The parade up DeMott Lane will conclude with a service at the Municipal Building.
Kick-off time for the parade is noon; it will start at the intersection of DeMott and New Brunswick Road.
In addition to the appearance of Pres. Abraham Lincoln impersonator Robert Costello of Piscataway and the helicopter flyover, the parade will feature a display of classic and electric cars, and participation by a number of township groups and organizations, including Boy and Girl Scout Troops, sports organizations, groups from Franklin High School and the township’s various fire companies.
Parade organizer Bob LaCorte said that any veterans who wish to ride in the car caravan should assemble at the corner of DeMott and New Brunswick by 11:20 a.m.
Weather permitting, the memorial service will take place in the Veterans Memorial Park, at the front of the Municipal Building.
