An open house for women interested in joining the Franklin Township Women’s Club is set for 1-3 p.m. Aug. 24 at the New Jersey State Federation of Women’s Clubs, 55 Labor Center Way, New Brunswick.
Franklin’s club is one of 21 clubs in the NJSFWC College District, covering parts of Somerset, Middlesex, Hunterdon and Mercer counties.
If you are interested in community service opportunities, leadership training, and in general looking to have fun, then a woman’s club is the right place for you, according to a press release about the open house. Through participation in local clubs, the NJSFWC enables its members to make a difference in the lives of others, one project at a time, according to the release
Diverse in age, interests, and experiences, all clubwomen are united by a desire to create positive change, meet others, while enhancing and benefiting their communities, the release said. NJSFWC members represent a broad range including teachers, business owners, social workers, elected officials, medical professionals, homemakers, corporate executives and professionals, students and retirees, according to the release.
The NJSFWC is celebrating 125 years of community service in 2019, according to the release. Established in 1894, among its accomplishments are the founding of the New Jersey College for Women (now Douglass Residential College) in 1918, the establishment of almost 75 percent of all public libraries and through the efforts of the NJSFWC, the formation of the Palisades Interstate Park Commission, which was established to oversee the preservation of the Palisades, the release said
