Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (22-13) defeated the Sugar Land Skeeters (23-14) 4-3 in 12 innings at TD Bank Ballpark on Wednesday evening.
Justin Trapp’s two-out RBI single up the middle in the bottom of the 12th inning completed the sweep of the day-night double header.
“I was just looking for a good pitch to get a good swing on,” said Trapp. “ He left a fastball down the middle and I hit it back up the middle. I was just happy I was able to win a good game for the team tonight.”
The Patriots broke a 2-2 tie in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI triple by Danny Dorn to make the score 3-2.
The Skeeters tied up the game in the top of the ninth inning, making the score 3-3 on a bases loaded walk by Matt Chaves.
The Skeeters took the early 1-0 lead in the top of the second inning on a solo home run by Denis Phipps (3).
Kyle Kubitza hit a solo home run (5) in the top of the fourth inning to make it a 2-0 ballgame. Kubitza also had a home run in the earlier game of the twin bill.
The Patriots tied up the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on an RBI single by Craig Massey and a bases loaded walk by Alfredo Rodriguez.
Dustin Antolin (1-1) picked up the win with a scoreless inning pitched and two strikeouts. Matt Sergey (1-4) suffered the loss, allowing a run on two hits in 0.2 innings pitched.
