Applications for three developments that promise to change the look of the Hamilton Street business district will be heard by township planners during March.
Two of the projects are new, while one is currently before the Zoning Board of Adjustment.
The first of the new projects to be heard – it’s scheduled for the Planning Board’s March 2 meeting – would result in a 3-story mixed-use building at Hamilton Street and DeWald Avenue, the improvement of part of Martin Street and three single-family homes.
The second of the new projects, which is scheduled to be heard at the March 16 Planning Board meeting, would result in a 4-story mixed-use building at the corner of Hamilton and Baier streets, at the site of the former Millennium Bank.
The third project, which has been heard by the zoning board, is for a mixed-use building on Hamilton, on the block between Ambrose and Home streets. The continued hearing on that plan is set for the board’s March 3 meeting.
The Hamilton-DeWald streets’ plan would build 6,000 square feet of retail space fronting Hamilton, topped by 30 apartments. Plans call for 13 1-bedroom apartments and 17 2-bedroom apartments, according to Mark Healey, the township’s principal planner.
A 55-space parking lot would be placed behind the building.
The developer would also create a 3-parcel subdivision along what would be a newly improved portion of Martin Street, according to Healy. Martin Street would be extended to DeWald, he said.
On March 16, the Planning Board will hear an application for a building holding 21,985 square feet of retail space on the first floor and 60 apartments on the second, third and fourth floors, according to a memo from Healey to the board.
The apartment breakdown is planned to be 30 1-bedroom units, 30 2-bedroom units and one studio apartment.
There is a 122-space parking lot planned for the rear of the building.
On March 3, the Zoning Board will continue its hearing on a proposal for a building encompassing the block of Hamilton Street between Ambrose and Home streets, the ground floor of which would be retail topped by three floors of flats and 1- and 2-bedroom apartments.
The 9,250 square feet of retail space would be divided roughly into three stores of 2,600 square feet, 1,650 square feet and 5,000 square feet, and the residential area will be comprised of 31 500-square-foot studio apartments, three 1-bedroom apartments measuring about 600 square feet and 50 2-bedroom apartments measuring about 900 square feet.
Plans also call for an 84-slot underground parking garage.
Township officials hope that developments such as these and others that are in the wings will help rejuvenate the Hamilton Street business district.
