A 25-year-old Somerset woman was arrested Dec. 12 after police said she accepted delivery of a package containing more than $72,000 worth of marijuana.
Police said Latoya Drew of Hamilton Street accepted the package, delivered by a United States Postal Service Inspector, at about 11:30 a.m.
Authorities had established surveillance on Drew’s home after receiving a tip that an unknown Controlled and Dangerous Substance was going to be delivered there, police said.
Moments after Drew accepted the package, police said, members of the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Organized Crime and Narcotics Task Force and U.S. Postal Inspectors approached her, identified themselves and asked to inspect the package.
Drew agreed, police said, and an inspection revealed it contained about 18 pounds of marijuana.
Drew was charged with 2nd Degree Possession with the Intent to Distribute, police said.
Drew remains in custody at the Somerset County Jail, Somerville, in lieu of $75,000 bail.
