Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of outfielder Brian Van Kirk.
Van Kirk enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and second in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He previously spent the 2014 season with the Camden Riversharks, and hit .268 over 109 games with 11 home runs and 58 RBI.
The Southwest Ranches, Florida native played in 22 games with the Ottawa Champions (Can-Am League) earlier this season.
Van Kirk spent the first seven years of his professional career in the Toronto Blue Jays organization, including two years (2012-2013) with Double-A New Hampshire. His best season came with Advanced-A Dunedin in 2011, where he hit .292 with a career-high 17 home runs and 66 RBI.
The 21st round draft pick of the Blue Jays owns a .286 average with 67 home runs and 362 RBI in his eight-year career.
In other team news, the Somerset Patriots have place infielder/outfielder Carlos Guzman on the disabled list.
