There were no apparent injuries Feb. 9 after a shotgun was fired out of a car in the Rachel Court/Beekman Road area, police said.

The car left the area after the shots were fired, said Franklin Township Police spokesman Lt. Phil Rizzo.

“Multiple” shotgun shells were found on Beekman, near its intersection with Rachel, Rizzo said. Rizzo said he did not know the type of shells that were found.

Rizzo said that police received a call shortly after 5 p.m. reporting gunshots in the area, which is near Delar Park.

A second caller reported they saw someone speeding away after the shots were fired, and provided a description of the car, Rizzo said.

Officers did locate the car, but the occupants turned out to be witnesses to the incident Rizzo said.

No one was found injured at the scene, and a check of local hospitals for gunshot victims was negative, Rizzo said.

An area resident who said she heard the shots said that she left her house about 15 minutes later to find police had already arrived.

“I walked to the corner of Rachel in the parking lot and heard there were a group of kids on that corner and a car drove by and shot at them,” she said. “A woman who was walking her dog at the time walked by and confirmed and she didn’t say much else she was very upset she saw the whole thing.”

Beekman Road was shut down for about an hour during the investigation, conducted by FTPD officers and detectives, Rizzo said.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call FTPD at (732) 873-2300.
