Patriots Eliminate Bluefish From Playoff Race With 6-2 Win

sept15FINALBridgeport, CT – The Somerset Patriots (36-27, 86-47) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (28-35, 54-79) 6-2 Tuesday evening at Harbor Yard. Bridgeport has been eliminated from postseason contention with tonight’s loss so Somerset’s first round opponent will be Long Island.

 

In the top of the fourth inning the Patriots exploded for five runs to grab a 5-0 advantage. Both third baseman Greg Hopkins and shortstop Robert Andino clubbed RBI doubles. Center fielder Jonny Tucker poked a two RBI single while left fielder Mike Wilson ripped a RBI single.

 

Bridgeport plated a pair of runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to cut the deficit to 5-2. Designated hitter C.J. Retherford fisted a RBI double while first baseman Andres Rodriguez recorded a RBI ground out.

 

Hopkins laced a RBI single in the top of the seventh inning to increase the Patriots lead to 6-2.

 

Will Oliver earned the win (6-1) tossing six innings while allowing two runs. Matt Iannazzo sustained the loss (5-11) hurling six innings while surrendering five runs.
