Jonathan Black passed away on Friday evening while in upstate New York. He was 23 years of age.
Mr. Black was born in Pequannock, but was a lifetime resident of Franklin Township. He attended Franklin Township Public Schools and graduated from Bishop George Ahr High School, where he played varsity football and was a varsity wrestler.
After graduation he pursued a career in insurance sales. He was currently employed by Schumacher Insurance in Montclair as an agent.
Jonathan volunteered his time to helping others including Special Olympics and the students at the Matheny School in Far Hills. He was a friend to all that knew him and always said “I love you” when leaving. He had an infectious smile and his sense of humor allowed you to have a better day.
He was pre-deceased by his paternal grandmother Marge Black and his maternal grandfather Mike Gerber.
Jonathan is survived by his parents, Richard and Maria Black of Somerset and his siblings Taylor and Hunter Black. He is also survived by his paternal grandfather Joseph Black and maternal grandparents Trudy Gerber and Alvaro and Minerva Puentes, his loving girlfriend Ashley Conte along with many aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and friends.
Visiting will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Dec. 13 at Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St. A funeral service will be held at St. Matthias Church on JFK Blvd. in Somerset at 11 a.m. Dec. 14. Please go directly to church.
All other services will take place privately.
