FHS Bowling: Boys Sweep, Girls Lose, But Notch First Game Win

Powered by Senior Sergey Eccles total pin count of 803, the Franklin High School boys’ bowling team rolled over the South Amboy High School squad Dec. 16 at Brunswick Zone/Carolier Lanes, North Brunswick.

Eccles rolled a 268, 258 and 277 to bring his season average to 231. Eccles was followed by Sophomore Dylan Coker’s 591 (200, 201, 190); Senior Nicholas Chow’s 553 (183, 224, 146); Freshman Brian Baker’s 358 (179, 179); Sophomore Geno Hayler’s 310 (175, 135) and Junior Joseph Thigpen’s 224 (106, 118).

Aiding in the winning effort were Senior Muntasir Cooper with a 162, Freshman Brendan Benson with a 109 and Freshman Joseph DePadova with an 89.

Franklin’s game totals were 998, 997 and 910, besting South Amboy’s 676, 698 and 658, respectively.

The girls’ team was not able to secure a match win, but did win its first game against Monroe High School at Brunswick Zone.

Junior Alanna Merrit led her team with a total score of 527 (180, 140, 207). She was followed by Freshman Shyann Hester’s 412 (125, 139, 148); Senior Alexis Chyz’ 411 (135, 137, 139); Senior Nadia Pittman’s 402 (13, 141, 128) and Senior Brianna Barfield’s 376 (110, 154, 112).

Junior Kourtney Laming’s two-game score was 210 (108, 102) and Freshman Melissa White rolled a 103.

The girls won the match’s second game by a score of 711 to 686, but lost the first and third games by scores of 683 to 710 and 734 to 784, respectively.
