One of two family cats was killed in an afternoon fire Jan. 22 that severely damaged a Millstone Road home.
Police said that a 9-1-1 call reporting the fire was received at about 3:41 p.m., and that responding officers reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the house.
Fire fighters from East Franklin and Community fore companies and Somerset Fire and Rescue responded and extinguished the fire, police said.
While inside the home, fire fighters located the family’s two cats, both of which were unconscious and unresponsive, according to the FTPD press release. EMS personnel attempted to revive the cats, but one died at teh scene, the release said.
The second cat regained consciousness and was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment, according to the release. After treatment, the cat was placed under the care of the Franklin Township Animal Shelter.
Fire fighters from the Franklin Township Office of Fire Prevention determined that the fire started in the kitchen, and did not appear to be suspicious.
FTPD spokesman Lt. Phil Rizzo said the homeowners returned to the home while the fire was being extinguished.
