State Assemblyman Joe Danielsen, D-17, was the top individual fundraiser in the 2016 St. Baldrick’s Foundation head-shaving event at the North Plainfield Fire Department.
The St. Baldrick’s Foundation funds childhood cancer research. The head shaving was held at the fire department’s headquarters on March 19.
This was Danielsen’s ninth year participating in the event.
This year, the Assemblyman and township resident raised more than $6,200. Danielsen received an award from the fire department for the more than $54,000 he has raised in his nine years of participation.
Danielsen told the crowd that he wanted his work with the St. Baldricks’s Foundation to be “my legacy.”
“Stepping up to do this is probably the single most important thing” he’s done, Danielsen said.
Children with cancer “can’t wait anymore,” he said. “They need us.”
Jeff Babb, of Somerset Fire & Rescue, was the fourth-highest fundraiser, getting more than $2,000 in donations.
