Township residents looking to get fit have another choice with the grand opening of Crunch Fitness in Rutgers Plaza on Easton Avenue.
Located in half of the space of a former supermarket – and next to the former Staples space – the new Crucnh franchise takes up about 25,000 square feet, said Eric Wahad, the franchise’s general manager.
The grand opening on Sept. 17 was highlighted by a ribbon-cutting. Among those attending were Mayor Phillip Kramer, Township Councilman James Vassanella (D-Ward 5) and Michael Harris, president of the Franklin Township Chamber of Commerce.
There were also games outside in the parking lot and, in the gym, a DJ and various fitness contests.
Wahad said the franchise is operated by his family, which has plans to open more gyms throughout New Jersey.
Crunch has a variety of offerings, Wahad said, including “tanning, child care, hydro massage, spin, fitness classes, boot camps; we offer everything.”
Wahad said his family picked Franklin as their starting point because “they offer great demographics and the people are great.”
“It seemed like a great starting point,” he said.
Crunch Fitness is open 5 a.m. to midnight Mondays through Fridays, and 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays.
