The township Shade Tree Commission has increased the maximum number of trees a township resident may purchase during its annual tree sale.
Residents may buy up to six trees until April 8, according to a release from the commission.
According to the commission’s Web site, the trees available for purchase include:
Shade Trees
- October Glory Red Maple
- Fall Fiesta Sugar Maple
- Heritage River Birch
- Thornless Honeylocust
- London Plane Tree
Ornamental Trees
- Redbud
- Venus Flowering Dogwood, Rutgers Hybrid
- Prairie Fire Crabapple
Trees are sold as bare root stock and include a deer guard for each. A description and photo of each tree, planting instructions and an order form can be found at: www.franklintwpnj.org/treesale.
The Annual Spring Tree Sale is open to Franklin Township, Somerset County residents only. Order pick up anticipated for early April.
For the past 8 years, the Shade Tree Commission has offered to township residents a variety of trees to promote awareness and the importance of trees in the Township. The Shade Tree Commission is comprised of resident volunteers working as a team with the Township Manager and the Department of Public Works. The Commission advises in planning for the planting and care of shade and ornamental trees in parks, public lands and rights-of-way throughout the Township.
Franklin Township has been named a Tree City USA by the Arbor Day Foundation yearly since 2000. Communities achieve Tree City USA status by meeting 4 core standards of sound urban forestry management. The Tree City USA program is a national program that provides the framework for community forestry management for cities and towns across America.
