Lady Warriors’ Miller Set To Make FHS Basketball Scoring History
She’s already the highest-scoring girls’ basketball player in Franklin High School history, but senior Adreana Miller isn’t finished.
“The sky’s the limit,” Miller said Jan. 9 during a break in practice.
By the end of just the seventh game of the season on Jan. 8, Miller recorded her 1,066th point, breaking the all-time girls’ record of 1,059 set in 2012 by Shalette Brown.
And with an average of 15 points per game so far, Miller has her sights set on eclipsing the 1,087 point record set in 1973 by Vernon Winchester to become the Warriors’ all-time leading scorer.
Miller is taking it all in stride.
“If we win, that’s what important,” she said.
Miller, who will be attending La Salle University on a scholarship in the fall, said she had no expectations of setting any records when she first began playing varsity four years ago.
“I’m just a regular person who plays basketball every day,” she said. “I wasn’t expecting to break a record in this system. It’s just very nice to know I can do that.”
Brown was on hand Jan. 8 in the game against Hillsborough High School to see her record fall.
“I’m happy about it,” said Brown, who was once a teammate of Miller’s. “I told her when I got mine that she was going to break it.”
“We’re all very proud of Adrianna,” said head coach Audrey Taylor. “She’s a scorer, which something IO kind of knew she was going to do.”
“She’s our leading scorer, our leading rebounder,” Taylor said. “She’s a leader for us. She comes in and gives us exactly what we need every single game.”
“If you want someone to represent your program, Adrianna is definitely a great example,” Taylor said.
Miller said her goal is to finish the season – and her high school career – with 1,500 points.
“I just want to keep building,” she said.
