Substation Failure Leads To Power Outage For 6,000 Franklin PSE&G Customers

Public Service Electric & Gas is still investigating the cause of a substation failure in Somerset Jan. 24 that knocked out power to thousands of township residents.

In a release, the company said that about 5,900 customers in the township lost power shortly after 11 a.m. when a substation malfunctioned.

The problem also caused outages in New Brunswick and North Brunswick, according to the release.

Power was restored to all customers by 1 p.m., the company said.

Franklin Township established warming stations in the township library on DeMott Lane until 5 p.m. and the senior center, also on DeMott Lane, until 9 p.m. on Jan. 24.
