Somerset Patriots Sign Outfielder D’Vontrey Richardson

Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of outfielder D’Vontrey Richardson.

Richardson enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and first in the Atlantic League.

The Georgia native was drafted by the Milwaukee Brewers in the fifth round of the 2009 MLB June Amateur Draft out of Florida State University. Richardson spent his first four seasons with the Milwaukee organization, including a stint with Double-A Huntsville in 2014.

While splitting time between the Laredo Lemurs of the American Association and the New Jersey Jackals of the Can-Am League in 2015, Richardson hit .313 with eight home runs and 45 runs batted in over 84 total games.

Richardson followed up his 2015 season with a strong 2016 campaign with New Jersey. Over 97 games, he hit .310 with 67 RBI and 25 stolen bases as the team’s everyday centerfielder.

Richardson brings impressive athleticism with him to Somerset. During his time at Florida State, the six-foot-one outfielder also served as a backup quarterback on the Seminole’s football team behind former NFL quarterback Christian Ponder.

Over his seven-year career, Richardson owns a .284 career batting average with 31 home runs, 280 RBI, 351 runs scored and 107 stolen bases in 611 career games.
