Owens-releaseBridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of Major League left-handed pitcher Rudy Owens.

Owens enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and first in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. The southpaw has made one start at the Major League level with the Houston Astros in 2014. He worked 5.2 innings in a start against Seattle Mariners All-Star Felix Hernandez. The Chandler Gilbert Community College alumnus has played at Triple-A for the majority of the last four seasons, and owns a 29-28 record at that level. Overall, Owens is 56-48 with a 3.72 ERA over 168 appearances (154 starts) in his nine-year minor league career.

Owens is expected to be activated during Somerset’s next home stand.
