Somerset Patriots’ Jake Fox Signed By Toronto Blue Jays

foxBridgewater, N.J. – Somerset Patriots designated hitter Jake Fox has signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays organization with a Major League Spring Training invite.

 

Last year, the Indiana native split the majority of his time between Mexico (Laguna) and Double-A Reading in the Philadelphia Phillies organization before finishing the season with the Patriots. Overall, Fox combined to hit .309 with 38 home runs and 118 RBI over 140 games.

 

Fox has spent parts of the last three seasons with the Patriots, highlighted by earning the 2013 Atlantic League Player of the Year Award. That year, Fox played in only 96 games before signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks organization at the end of the season. At the time of his signing, Fox was hitting .310 and led the league in home runs (25) and RBI (82).

 

The former big leaguer also recorded a .388 batting average with seven home runs and 20 RBI over 21 games with the Patriots in 2012. In 122 games over three seasons with Somerset, Fox has accumulated a .326 average with 32 home runs and 104 RBI.

 

Fox played in parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues between 2007 and 2011. He made his Major League debut in 2007 with the Chicago Cubs, appearing in seven games before appearing in 82 games with the Cubs again in 2009.

 

Fox also spent time with the Oakland Athletics and Baltimore Orioles in 2010 and again with the Orioles in 2011. During his Major League career, Fox hit 28 doubles and 20 home runs with 73 RBI over 193 games.

 

He has a Minor League career batting average of .293 with 1,128 hits, 267 doubles, 12 triples, 211 home runs, and 746 RBI in 1,047 games.
