Scott Kelly Hits Walk Off Single For Patriots Win

Bridgewater, NJ- Scott Kelly hit a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth inning to lead the Somerset Patriots (8-8, 50-36) over the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs (8-8, 46-39) 3-2 at TD Bank Ballpark on Tuesday evening.

Trailing 2-0 with the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth inning, Carlos Guzman drew a walk, Zach Racusin was hit by a pitch and Kelly followed with a base hit up the middle for the win.

“I just wanted to stay simple. I wanted to put the ball in play and hopefully something worked out,” said Kelly. “None of this happens without the great at bats that happened before me. Everybody had to really grind it out.”

It was the ninth walk off for the team and second walk off hit for Kelly this year.

The Blue Crabs took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI double by Zach Cone.

After a 63-minute rain delay, the Blue Crabs added a run in the top of the seventh inning on an RBI single by Luis Alen that made the score 2-0.

Ronnie Shaban (3-2) got the win with a scoreless inning pitched. Cody Eppley (1-4) took the loss, allowing three unearned runs in 0.1 innings pitched.

The 2017 Somerset Patriots Season presented by Ford will continue at home on Wednesday with a Day-Night Double Header at 11:05 am and 7:05 pm game against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. The night game features Bark In The Park. For tickets, visit www.somersetpatriots.com.
