Jan. 29

A 2001 BMW caught fire in a Route 518 driveway. Police said the fire started in the engine compartment. Griggstown and Little Rocky Hill fire departments responded.

§

Saba Irfan-Muhammad of Somerset was cited for careless driving after her car rear-ended one on Easton Avenue, driven by Amanda Kaveney of Raritan. Irfan-Muhammad said sun glare prevented her from seeing that Kaveney’s car had stopped.

§

Camille Henderson of Somerset was cited for careless driving after the car she was driving rear-ended one driven on Highland Avenue by Francis Grunseich of Somerset. Henderson said sun glare blocked her vision.

Leigh Couture of Westfield was cited for careless driving after her car rear-ended one on Davidson Avenue driven by Gary Ryder of Hacketstown. Couture said she could not stop in time.

§

Shaun Howard of Somerset was cited for improper passing and leaving the scene of an accident after his car struck one driven on Franklin Boulevard by Thomas Cusimano of Somerset. Howard was trying to pass Cusimano’s car at the time.

Vanessa Guevara of Somerset was cited for being an unlicensed driver, failure to yield and carless driving after her car collided with one driven by Sylwester Wiernasz of Parlin. Guevara said she was stopped at the intersection of Hillcrest Avenue and Ellwood Street, on Ellwood, when she entered the intersection, thinking it was clear. It was not.

Jan. 30

An Apple iPad valued at $150 was stolen from a Cottontail Lane hotel room.

Deep Patel of Hillsborough was cited for careless driving after his car collided with one driven by Richard Allen of North Brunswick on Amwell Road. Patel said he was turning from Amwell to South Middlebush Road and did not see Allen’s car.

§

Mariel Lopez-Jimenez of New Brunswick was cited for careless driving after her car slid on the snow into a car parked on Prospect Street and owned by Wayne Sellers of Somerset.

Jan. 31

Suemair Hassan of Franklin Park told police that he dropped a banana he was eating while driving down South Middlebush Road, and, when he bent down to pick it up, took his eyes off the road. His car rear-ended one driven by Tammy Griffin of Franklin Park. Hassan was cited for careless driving.

§

Mayra Arita of North Brunswick was cited for careless driving after her car rear-ended one driven on Easton Avenue by Deborah Kogut of Rocky Hill.

§

Feb. 1

The rear tires on a car owned by a Kee Avenue resident were slashed.

§

The rear window of a 1999 Mercedes Benz was smashed while it was parked on Matilda Avenue.

§

Swapnil Afzalpurkar of Skillman told police he was driving down Canal Road when a deer ran into the side of his car. The deer fled the scene.
