Police Log: Jan. 24 – 31, 2017

Jan. 24

  • A car driven by Timothy McDougald of Somerset was turning from Somerset Street to Franklin Boulevard when it hit Marlon Spann of New Brunswick as Spann was crossing the street. Spann complained of pain to his right side and was taken to Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick.
  • Cathleen DeWitt of Somerset was cited for careless driving after her car rear-ended a car driven on Easton Avenue by Maria Jimenez-Demendez of New Brunswick.
  • Mary Bright of Somerset was cited for careless driving after her car struck a guardrail at Schoolhouse Road and Weston Canal Road. Bright told police she didn’t realize Schoolhouse ended at Weston Canal, and when she did, she tried to turn but her car kept going straight.
  • Fatmata Conteh of Somerset was cited for careless driving after her car collided with one driven by Jessica Herrera of Somerset. Herrera said she was driving her car on Westminster Road when Conteh’s car pulled out in front of hers.

Jan. 25

  • Dhavalkum Jain of Middlesex was cited for careless driving after his car rear-ended one driven on Amwell Road by Richard Roshak of Somerset. Jain initially told police that his brakes didn’t work well, but when they were found to be functioning normally, he said he was too close to Roshak’s car to stop in time. Roshak said traffic ahead of him stopped suddenly, causing him to stop suddenly, too.
  • Kawshar Kahn of Somerset was cited for careless driving after his car rear-ended a car driven on Easton Avenue by Cherrick Gordon of Somerset. Kahn said sun glare prevented him from seeing Gordon’s car.

Jan. 26

  • Someone broke into a car parked on Bedford Road and stole an Apple Mini iPod Touch valued at $100.
  • Alteron Beverly, 27, was arrested at Plainfield PD for an outstanding township warrant.
  • Masafumi Nakatani of South River was cited for careless driving after his car rear-ended one driven on Easton Avenue by Aksel Dirkzwager of New Brunswick. The impact forced Dirkzwager’s car into the rear of one driven by Judith Hasner of Somerset, which in turn was pushed into the rear of a car driven by Carlos Bautista-Zarceno of Flemington.
  • Faith Wason of Middlesex was cited for careless driving after the school bus she was driving rear-ended a car driven on South Middlebush Road by Barry Zehnacker of Kendal Park. Wason said she couldn’t stop in time because the road was wet.

Jan. 27

  • A gold-colored iPhone valued at $700 was stolen from a car parked on Abbey Drive.
  • A car driven by Lisa McKay of South Plainfield was pulling out of an Elizabeth Avenue shopping center when it collided with a car driven by Ramanamur Gandham of Basking Ridge. Gandham said McKay’s car pulled out in front of his car and he could not stop in time.
  • Kenneth Ohene of New Brunswick said he was slowing his car down on Route 27 when it was rear-ended by a car driven  by Alyssa Bree of Highland Park.
  • Michael Keller of Somerset was cited for careless driving and failure to produce documents after his car rear-ended a car on Weston Canal Road driven by Phillip Barley of Edison. The impact pushed Barley’s car into the rear of one driven by Deborah Krammer of Scotch Plains.
  • Phillip Jackson of North Brunswick was cited for careless driving after his car collided with one on Route 27 driven by Brandon Coleman of Kendall Park. Coleman said Jackson’s car pulled out of a driveway in front of his.
  • Melodie Perez of Perth Amboy was cited for careless driving and failure to display credentials after her car rear-ended one driven on Easton Avenue by Mary Dancel of North Brunswick. Perez said she was trying to change lanes, but had to switch back to her original lane, when she struck the other car.

Jan. 28

  • Noah Quiroz of Philadelphia was cited for careless driving after his car struck a parked car on Donald Avenue and then flipped over. Quiroz said he lost control of his car after he turned from Pine Grove Avenue.

Jan. 29

  • Someone broke windows of a truck parked on Lewis Street.
  • A purse valued at $100, $60 in cash, personal papers and keys were stolen from a car parked on Burns Street.
  • James Badoe, 57, of East Brunswick, was arrested on an outstanding Cranbury warrant after a traffic stop at Route 27 and Veronica Avenue.
  • Oh Kwom of Bridgewater was driving his car through the intersection of Schoolhouse Road and Elizabeth Avenue when it was struck by a car driven by Ekta Anand of Belle Mead. Anand said she was on Elizabeth Avenue and thought she had the green light.

Jan. 30

  • Someone rummaged through a car parked on Hawthorne Drive, but didn’t take anything.
  • A 2005 Toyota Corolla was stolen from a Fisher Drive parking lot.
  • A forklift valued at $15,000 was stolen from a Pierce Street business. The vehicle was stolen on Jan 22, but was reported on Jan. 30.
  • Antonio Bolton, 50, of Somerset was arrested on a warrant on Hamilton Street.
  • Cars driven by Hillary Legacy of Kendall Park and Kevin Bristol of Somerset collided at Amwell and South Middlebush roads. Bristol said Legacy’s car turned from Amwell onto South Middlebush in front of his. Legacy said she did not see the other car until she started to turn.

Jan. 31

  • A package was stolen from the porch of an Alerica Lane home.
  • Crystal Sawyer, 26, of Manville was arrested on an outstanding Somerville warrant after a motor vehicle accident.
  • Erik Diaz, 29, of New Brunswick was arrested on an outstanding New Brunswick warrant after a suspicious vehicle call.
