Patriots Fall To Bluefish 4-1

65gonzalezscoringwebBridgewater, NJ – The Bridgeport Bluefish (15-27) defeated the Somerset Patriots (24-19) 4-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Sunday afternoon to salvage the series finale.

Just hours after a dramatic walk-off win for Somerset on Saturday night, the Patriots struggled to get anything going offensively in the daytime contest.

“I guess it can go either way. You can either be riding real high or it can be tough to come back for an early game after a win like that,” said starting pitcher Mickey Storey about Matt Fields’ walk-off home run the night before. “It always seems to work out that way where you have a real big explosion for runs one night and the next day it’s not. Or a big walk off, emotional game and the next one it just doesn’t go your way.”

The Bluefish took a 2-0 lead in the fourth inning on a two-run double by Anthony Giansanti.

Somerset cut the lead in half on a sacrifice fly by Mycal Jones in the fifth inning. Despite a ten-hit game for Somerset, that run was all the Patriots were able to drive home.

Bridgeport threatened to add to the lead in the top of the seventh, but reliever Brandon Sisk was able to strike out two batters with a runner on third to end the inning.

Josh Vitters hit an RBI double in the eighth inning to extend Bridgeport’s lead to 3-1.

It became the 4-1 final score in the top of the ninth inning on an RBI single by Endy Chavez.

Jimmy Patterson (1-1) picked up the win, allowing a run on six hits in six innings pitched. Storey (1-3) took the loss, allowing two earned runs on four hits in five innings pitched. Taylor Thompson earned his second save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning pitched.

“It seems how it’s been going for my outings so far. I’ve pitched in a lot of close games. I don’t think I threw the ball particularly well today, but it was another close one. I just gave up big doubles and that was really the difference-maker,” Storey remarked.

The 2016 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford continues on the road until Tuesday, June 14th when the team returns home for a 7:05 pm game against the York Revolution.
