Patriots Blank Ducks 8-0

MAY31stGRAPHICCentral Islip, NY – The Somerset Patriots (22-13) shutout the Long Island Ducks (18-15) 8-0 Saturday evening from Bethpage Ballpark. The two squads have split the first two games of this three game weekend series.

 

In the top of the fourth inning Somerset scored three runs to take a 3-0 advantage. Right fielder Ty Wright registered a RBI sacrifice fly, shortstop Edwin Maysonet slapped a RBI single, and second baseman Nate Spears roped a RBI single.

 

Somerset added three runs in the top of the seventh inning to take a 6-0 lead. First baseman Robbie Widlansky pounded a RBI double and designated hitter Eddy Martinez-Esteve ripped a two RBI single.

 

Third baseman Corey Smith recorded a RBI single in the top of the eighth inning to make the score 7-0 in favor of Somerset.

 

Maysonet legged out a RBI infield single in the top of the ninth to make the score 8-0 which would be the final.

 

Gary Moran (2-2) earned the win tossing seven scoreless innings while scattering just three hits. Fernando Hernandez (2-2) suffered the loss hurling six innings while allowing three runs on seven hits.
