Life Story: Nancy Jane Harsell, 83; Former Executive Secretary For Schools Superintendent

Nancy Jane Harsell, 83, went home to God on May 19 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. She was a devoted mother, sister, grandmother, and friend.

Mrs. Harsell was born January 4, 1934 in Elizabeth, the daughter of Richard and Martha (Cavanaugh) Schmeling. She was a resident of Somerset for 53 years.

Nancy loved to sing and performed with the Elizabethtown Variety Players. She loved crossword puzzles and anything British. Nancy was a faithful parishioner at the Middlebush Reformed Church. Nancy gave selflessly and volunteered countless hours with the Interfaith Hospitality Network, Franklin Township Food Bank, as well as, with Caring Hearts.

Professionally, Nancy was the Executive Secretary for the Superintendent of Franklin Township Schools, where she worked for over 25 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Harsell.

Mrs. Harsell is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth Gammon; her sons, Richard Harsell and his wife Susan, and John Harsell and his wife Erin; her brother, Richard Schmeling and his wife Isabelle; her sister, Martha White; her seven grandchildren, Jon, Chris, Geoff, Josiah, Nicholas, Mackenzie and Riley; her seven nieces and nephews; and nine great- nieces and nephews.

Family and friends may attend a memorial service at 1 p.m. June 3 at the Middlebush Reformed Church in Somerset.
