Life Story: Michael Marinaro, 69; Restaurateur, Animal Rescuer

Michael Marinaro passed away suddenly on Feb. 11 at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick. He was 69 years old.

Michael was born in Manhattan and lived in Hoboken and Bradley Gardens before moving to Somerset 35 years ago. He was a graduate of Bridgewater Raritan High school. Michael was co-owner of La Biga Restaurant in South Amboy for many years prior to his retirement in 1996.

Besides his patio gardening, he enjoyed cooking and then sharing with friends and family. However, his true passion revolved around the care of animals. The many cats he saved and loved were truly his heart.

He was predeceased by his parents Michael and Catherine (Martino) Marinaro and his sisters Laetitia Jones and Georgia Peebles.

He is survived by his wife of 27 years Valarie (Edgley) Marinaro. He is also survived by his nephew AJ Jones and his wife Danielle and their children Jacob, Samantha and Mikey; a niece, Stephanie Jones and her son Ayden, and a niece, Erica Jones.

Friends and family my gather beginning at 11 a.m. March 12 at the Gleason Funeral Home, 1360 Hamilton St. A memorial service will begin at noon.
