Credit Union Sets 6th Annual Bike-a-Thon

Money raised donated for prostate cancer awareness and screenings

The Renaissance Community Development Credit Union’s 6th Annual Bike-a-Thon is set for 8 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 21.

The ride, proceeds of which go to support prostate cancer awareness and the importance of early detection, begins and ends at the credit union offices at 55 Fuller St. in Somerset.

Money raised is donated to the Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital Foundation that will provide three days of free prostate cancer screening to the cyclists and men throughout the communities of Somerset and Middlesex counties, according to the event’s Web site.

A number of different rides and walks are planned:

A three-mile walk.ride will take place in Colonial Park, 156 Mettlers Rd. The course passes Spooky Brook Golf Course and parts of the Delaware and Raritan Canal and the Millstone River.

Also offered are rides of 10, 30 and 50 miles, all of which take participants through township streets and along open spaces.

All routes are monitored by cell phones, Support and Gear vehicles and members of the support team, according to the Web site.
