Construction is underway on the newest addition to Colonial Park: A spray park.

The spray park should be open by late summer, a county engineer said

Abraham General Construction of West Orange won the $819,036 contract for the park from the Somerset County Board of Chosen Freeholders in December, 2017.

Located adjacent to the playground off Colonial Drive, the spray park will feature more than 30 pieces of water-spouting equipment.

The bid for the project specified that the equipment must come from Texas-based Water Odyssey, or an approved equal.

The bid document also specified the quantity and kind of equipment the Freeholders want to place in the park.

The park will take up about 6,500 square feet of the 1.6-acre project area, said Adam Bloom, the county engineer in charge of the project

He said the project also includes increased parking and a gazebo

Here are some of the pieces that will be installed:

For kids aged 2-5 years, there’s Felipe Frog:

And Billy Box Turtle:

For older kids, there are things such as Geyserino

And the Over and Under:

And also the Mission Hill Spill:

And, the Spill Tower:

The park will use recirculating water, according to the plans.
