A vigil to “reaffirm our commitment for unity and solidarity” is planned for 8 p.m. Aug. 20 at St. Matthias Church.
The vigil is being planned by the Franklin Township Interfaith Council.
“We are deeply saddened and concerned by emboldened hatred and violence that are taking place across our nation with the latest being on past Saturday with a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia that resulted in 19 people injured and the death of Heather Heyer,” Alex Kharazi and Rabbi Eli Garfinkle, the council’s president and vice president, respectively, said in an email.
“We are going through challenging times and it is more important than ever before that we come together as Americans to reaffirm our commitment for unity and solidarity,” the two said in the email.
St. Matthias Church is located at 168 John F. Kennedy Blvd.
