Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced the signing of outfielder Zach Racusin. He is active for Sunday’s game against the Sugar Land Skeeters.
Racusin enters his first season with the Somerset Patriots and first in the Atlantic League. The Mendham, New Jersey native just finished up his college career this season at Georgetown University. As a graduate student, Racusin led the team in batting (.342), at-bats (225), hits (77) and on-base percentage (.409). He was also tied for the team-lead in games (55) and ranked second on the team in runs (39) and fourth in RBI (34). Additionally, his .342 average ranked fifth-best in the Big East.
Prior to joining Georgetown, Racusin spent his junior and senior seasons at Marist College. There, he made a combined 90 starts for the Red Foxes and earned MAAC All-Academic first team honors his senior season. Racusin played in all 51 games for Marist his senior season in the outfield and hit .254 with 26 runs scored, 27 RBI and eight stolen bases.
Racusin also spent one season at the Community College of Baltimore County – Essex, where he hit .391 with nine doubles, 29 RBI and 22 stolen bases and was named first-team all-region.
Racusin’s first game with the Somerset Patriots will mark his professional baseball debut.
