Somerset Patriots Pitcher Sean Bierman Signed By Baltimore Orioles

biermannewsBridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots have announced that left-handed pitcher Sean Bierman’s contract has been purchased by the Baltimore Orioles organization and he will report to Double-A.

 

Bierman was leading the league in wins with a 10-2 record and was second in ERA with a 1.79. Bierman also struck out 60 batters in 115.2 innings pitched in 17 games started in an All-Star season for Somerset.

 

Bierman, a native of Kinnelon, New Jersey was in his first season with the Patriots. He has three seasons of service in the Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago White Sox and Atlanta Braves organizations.

 

Only once in his three-year career has Bierman had an ERA over 3.00 in a season (3.65, 2012). The southpaw went 6-5 with a 2.55 ERA in 18 appearances (14 starts) between Single-A Bowling Green and High-A Charlotte in 2013.

 

The next year, Bierman split time with the Rockland Boulders in the American Association along with the White Sox and Braves systems. Overall, he went 10-7 with a 2.58 ERA in 27 games (18 starts). That included leading the American Association in ERA (2.44) and finishing sixth in wins (8).

 

The former 10th-round pick is 31-17 with a 2.51 ERA in 72 career appearances (62 starts).

 

Bierman is the fourth Somerset Patriots player to sign with a Major League organization this season. He joins RHP Edwin Quirarte (San Francisco Giants), RHP Mickey Storey (Los Angeles Dodgers), and OF Chris Marrero (Chicago White Sox).
