Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots and Sanofi have teamed up to provide a STEM program for local schools both in the classroom and at the ballpark this season.
The Somerset Patriots will host three school field trip days at TD Bank Ballpark with 11:05 am games on Thursday, May 16th, Wednesday, May 22nd, and Wednesday, June 5th. For the first time, the events will have a heavy STEM focus to help make the trips fun and educational.
“We are always looking for ways to use our team and ballpark to help with different education initiatives,” said Somerset Patriots President/General Manager Patrick McVerry. “It’s one of our main goals and focuses as an organization, to not just provide affordable family entertainment, but to help make a difference with our work in the community. This program will hopefully teach students in a fun and unique way.”
Through the partnership, the Somerset Patriots and Sanofi have created a curriculum that teachers can use in the classroom to show how science, technology, engineering and math applies to baseball. The lessons focus on how to find out how to figure out player statistics, the science behind pitching, design of equipment and field dimensions, finding the sweet spot on a bat, and more.
With the curriculum, Sanofi is offering all participating educators the chance to bring the Students 2 Science V-Lab Program to their classrooms next school year. Students 2 Science bring hands-on, real-world STEM education, both in-lab and virtually, to schools throughout Somerset County.
At the games, students will be able to interact with different displays on the concourse set up by Sanofi and other team partners to show STEM in action.
The use of STEM content through scoreboard videos and PA announcements will also help deliver the message throughout the games.
“Sanofi is excited to be partnering with the Somerset Patriots on this very special initiative”, says Diana Blankman, Head of US Corporate Social Responsibility. “We are committed to strengthening communities where our employees live and work, and I can’t think of a better way to empower the genius of the next generation than by offering fun and engaging hands-on STEM educational programs.”
