
Bridgewater, New Jersey – The Somerset Patriots (6-9, 48-37) defeated the Long Island Ducks (7-8, 50-35) 8-3 before 6,910 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday evening.
The Ducks took an early 2-0 lead on a home run by Vladimir Frias (4) in the top of the first inning.
The Patriots claimed the lead with four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on two run-scoring wild pitches, an RBI single by Justin Pacchioli, and a bases loaded walk to Alfredo Rodriguez.
Long Island made it a 4-3 game in the top of the fifth inning on a T.J. Rivera RBI base hit.
Two sacrifice flies by Ramon Flores and Rodriguez put Somerset up 6-3 after six innings.
Will Kengor extended the Patriots lead with a solo home run (11) to center field for a 7-3 advantage.
The Patriots struck again in the bottom of the eighth inning on an RBI double by Rodriguez for the 8-3 final.
Roy Merritt (3-3) picked up the win, allowing three runs on six hits and four strikeouts in five innings of work. Kevin McAvoy (0-4) took the loss, allowing four earned runs on three hits in 3.2 innings.
