Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots (2-1) defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers (1-2) 2-1 Friday evening in Game Three of the Liberty Division Series from TD Bank Ballpark in front of 7,483 fans. The Patriots lead the best-of-five series 2-1.
In the bottom of the third inning shortstop Jeff Dominguez worked a seven pitch walk then stole second base. With two outs right fielder Ty Wright ripped a RBI single to give Somerset a 1-0 advantage.
Dominguez slugged a home run (1) in the home half of the fifth inning to increase Somerset’s lead to 2-0.
The Barnstormers scratched across a run in the top of the seventh inning when designated hitter Andrew Clark clubbed a home run (1) to cut the deficit in half at 2-1.
Josh Lowey (1-0) earned the win tossing 6.2 innings while striking out nine batters and only allowing one run. Shunsuke Watanabe (0-1) endured the loss lasting 6.1 innings while striking out seven batters and surrendering two runs. Jon Hunton notched the save (2) pitching a scoreless final frame.
The 2014 Somerset Patriots season presented by Ford will continue tomorrow night when the Patriots are home at TD Bank Ballpark for a 7:05 p.m. game against the Lancaster Barnstormers.
