Bridgewater, NJ – The Lancaster Barnstormers (17-26, 52-61) defeated the Somerset Patriots (24-21, 62-53) 4-2 on Tuesday evening at TD Bank Ballpark.
The Barnstormers powered in front on a grand slam by Josh Bell (15) in the top of the third inning.
“The one time they threatened, they got the big blow and that was really the difference in the game,” said Somerset Patriots manager Brett Jodie.
Somerset was held in check until the bottom of the ninth inning. An RBI single by Aharon Eggleston started the scoring and David Vidal followed with an RBI base hit to make the score 4-2. The Patriots would strand the tying run on second base and the winning run on first base in the inning.
“It was good to see us come back in the ninth and score some runs there. Hopefully it is something we will be able to feed off of tomorrow,” Jodie added.
Hitoshi Fujie (1-0) got the win with a scoreless 0.2 innings pitched. Nik Turley (3-1) suffered the loss, allowing four earned runs on five hits in six innings pitched.
