Patriots Edge Bluefish 8-7

JUNE7thGRAPHICBridgeport, CT – The Somerset Patriots (26-16) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (16-27) 8-7 Saturday evening from Harbor Yard. These two squads have split the first two games of this wrap around four game weekend series.

 

In the top of the first inning left fielder Aharon Eggleston slashed a RBI double and first baseman Robbie Widlansky sliced a RBI single as Somerset took an early 2-0 advantage.

 

Bridgeport plated three runs in the ensuing half inning to grab a 3-2 lead. Designated hitter Prentice Redman recorded a RBI fielder’s choice and first baseman Luis Lopez poked a two RBI double.

 

The Patriots retook the lead in the top of the sixth inning to make the score 6-3. Ty Wright blasted a two run home run (5), second baseman Jonny Tucker registered a RBI single and center fielder Luis Montanez brought home a run via a RBI fielder’s choice.

 

In the bottom of the sixth inning third baseman Juan Martinez hit a two run home run (2) as the Bluefish cut the deficit to 6-5.

 

Montanez cranked a two RBI double in the top of the eighth inning to expand the Patriots lead to 8-5.

 

The Bluefish scratched across a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to make the score 8-7 which would be the final score. Shortstop Mike Richard ripped a RBI triple and second baseman Ramon Castro socked a RBI sacrifice fly.

 

Erik Arnesen (5-2) earned the win tossing seven innings while only allowing three earned runs. Ty’Relle Harris (0-6) suffered the loss lasting 5.2 innings while surrendering four runs. Jon Hunton notched the save (11) as he pitched the final frame.
