Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (22-26, 64-54) defeated the Bridgeport Bluefish (23-26, 64-55) 4-1 at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday.
The Patriots scored all their runs in the bottom of the second inning. Yovan Gonzalez got the scoring started with a two-run single. Carlos Guzman and Olmo Rosario each had RBI base hits to extend the lead to 4-0.
Bridgeport got on the board with a solo home run by Gustavo Molina (7) in the top of the fifth inning to make the score 4-1, which would be the final.
Patriots starter Jerome Williams pitched a flawless first inning in his first appearance off the disabled list.
“It was fun to go back out there,” said Williams. “Having been out since June and then seeing the recent struggles the past few games, it was fun to be able to pitch tonight and help the team win.”
Somerset’s bullpen pitched eight innings and struck out 12 batters.
Patrick Johnson (1-1) picked up the win with two scoreless frames and three strikeouts. Manny Parra (2-3) suffered the loss, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and seven strikeouts in 4.2 innings pitched. Dustin Antolin earned his first save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
