Life Story: Paula Krauss, 77; Loved To Cook

Mrs. Paula Kraus passed away on November 26 at JFK Hospital in Edison. She was 77 years old.

Paula was born in Newark and raised by her parents, Morris and Mildred Rood, in Maplewood. Her infectious joy and love of life were evident from an early age. She graduated from Columbia High School, then trained as a dental assistant, working in the field after completing her training. She later worked as a receptionist at a pediatric medical office.

She married her husband, Jeffrey, in 1969. The young couple eventually settled in Bridgewater, where Paula began her most beloved job: raising her children and providing them an environment filled with love, warmth, and fun. She was intricately involved with all her children’s activities, from being a “Homeroom Mom,” to shuttling her children to and from classes, sports, and extracurricular activities, to keeping an open door for her children’s friends to enjoy her delicious food and joyful spirit. She was an excellent cook, known for her latkes, meatballs, matzah ball soup, and her grandson’s beloved brownies. Somehow, despite her wholehearted commitment to her children and family, she also found time to assist Jeff with his business, American Vending, working as the manager of accounts receivable.

Once her children were grown, Paula and her husband moved to the 55-and-over community of the Renaissance in Somerset, where she added to her extensive network with many wonderful friends, in between trips to her cherished local ShopRite. She was active in the community, playing MahJong and Canasta with friends, going to shows at the clubhouse, and going on group excursions to dinner and movies. Paula and her husband also enjoyed traveling and embarked on many memorable trips with friends and family, visiting the Caribbean islands, Mexico, Alaska, and Disney World with her children and grandson, among many other excursions.

Paula was predeceased by her brother-in-law, Arthur Warner.

She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Jeffrey Kraus, and their children, Stacy Siegelaub and her husband David, and Scott Kraus. She is also survived by her sister, Joyce Warner; grandson, Matthew Siegelaub; nephews, Gary Warner and his wife Lisa, Drew Warner, and Lonny Warner and his wife, Holly; great nieces Jessica Kaye and Melaina Warner, and great nephews Josh and Austin Warner.
