Lancaster, PA – The Lancaster Barnstormers (5-3) rallied past the Somerset Patriots (6-2) 9-7 Saturday night from Clipper Magazine Stadium. The two squads have split the first two games of this four game wrap around weekend series.
In the bottom of the first inning Lancaster plated a pair of runs on a RBI infield single by designated hitter Austin Gallagher and a throwing error by pitcher Zach Kroenke as the Stormers took an early 2-0 advantage.
In the top of the second inning Somerset sent eight men to the plate and scored five runs. Catcher Adam Donachie drew a bases loaded walk. Center fielder Jonny Tucker recorded a RBI sacrifice fly and second baseman Nate Spears clubbed a go ahead three run home run (2) to right field to make the score 5-2 in favor of the Patriots.
Lancaster scored two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning cutting the deficit to 5-4. Shortstop Lance Zawadski tallied a RBI sacrifice fly while center fielder Blake Gailen smacked a RBI single.
Somerset tacked on a run in the top of the fifth frame as third baseman Corey Smith ripped a RBI single upping the lead to 6-4.
The Barnstormers evened the score at 6-6 when right fielder Greg Golson hit a two RBI single in the bottom of the fifth frame.
In the ensuing half inning Donachie stroked a go ahead RBI single to put the Patriots back in front at 7-6.
Lancaster later took a 9-7 lead which they would not relinquish. In the bottom of the seventh inning second baseman Casey Frawley launched a two RBI double while first baseman Bobby Kielty notched a RBI double of his own.
Shunsuke Watanabe (1-0) earned the win in relief. Derell McCall (1-1) suffered the loss in relief. Pete Andrelczyk notched his second save of the year pitching a scoreless ninth inning.
