Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots (2-0, 37-28) defeated the Road Warriors (0-2, 17-48) 2-0 before 6,905 fans at TD Bank Ballpark on Saturday evening.
Patriots starter Kyle Davies (3-3) pitched seven scoreless and struck out nine batters to earn his third straight win. With the seven scoreless, Davies extended his team season-high scoreless streak to 18.2 innings pitched.
“I think rhythm is everything. In pitching you always talk about timing and I’ve gotten better timing,” said Davies. “I’ve been getting my body in better positions to throw the ball and that translates to better command.”
The Patriots took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by Jermaine Curtis.
A Ramon Flores’ RBI single in the bottom of the fifth inning gave Somerset an insurance run and the 2-0 final.
Brandon Bargas (0-5) suffered the loss, allowing two earned runs on nine hits in five innings pitched. Ryan Kelly earned his 11th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.
