A fire in a kitchen hood at the Stage House Tavern, Amwell Road, closed the restaurant for a few hours Dec. 31, but the doors were open later for the New Year’s eve crowd.
The restaurant opened for business as usual on Jan 1.
No firefighters were injured in the fire, but two “civilians” were being checked out by the East Millstone First Aid Squad, said Middlebush Volunteer Fire Department Chief Bob Cuddy.
If they are injured, he said, those injuries would be “very minor.”
Cuddy said the call came in shortly after 3 p.m. He sad he did not know how long it took to knock the fire down, but responding units were being discharged from the scene about 45 minutes later.
The fire was contained to the kitchen hood, he said, and resulted in “minor damage.”
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, Cuddy said.
“Off the top of my head, there could be at least six different reasons (for the fire),” Cuddy said. “But I’m not willing to speculate as to what could be the cause.”
Aside from Middlebush and the East Millstone squad, responding to the fire were units from Elizabeth Avenue Volunteer Fire Company, Millstone Valley fire Department and Somerset Volunteer Fire and Rescue Company No. 1.
Cuddy said units from Fire District Three were also put on standby.
