Activities designed to bolster reading and writing skills were offered to Franklin Park School students at the school’s annual Family Literacy Night April 1.
The Pre-K to 4th Grade students spent about a half-hour in each of three activities during the night which tested their skills in in things such as creating stories on-the-fly to writing persuasive essays.
The night, said Kindergarten teacher Gloria Niebergall, is an effort to “get parents involved with their kids and what they’re learning.”
“We get them into the school, they see some staff members and teachers and we get them to be hands-on with their kids in the area of literacy,” she said.
Niebergall, who helped coordinate the night with other staff and members of the school’s Parent-Teacher Organization, said a similar night is held for math topics.
