FTHS Sports: Boys’ Winter Track Team Captures Sixth Straight Somerset County Championship

The boys’ varsity indoor track team won its sixth straight Somerset County championship Dec. 27 at Lehigh University, Bethlehem, Pa.

The boys outscored second-place Ridge high School 68-56.

The boys’ novice team also won its division, besting second-place Hillsborough by a score of 24-14.

The varsity win was powered by first-place finishes by Sophomore Nile Uzzell in the 400 meter dash (53.30), Senior Josh Lockhart in the 55 meter hurdles (8.00) and the 4×400 meter relay team (3:32.16) of Sophomore Anthony Dawson, Senior Javon Pittman, Senior Anfernee Joseph and Uzzell.

Dawson placed second in the 400 meter dash (54.30), while Junior Tim Dawson placed ninth (57.86).

Placing in the 55 meter dash were Lockhart, who finished fourth (6.79) and Sophomore Nick Mayo, who finished fifth (6.80).

In the 800 meter run, Joseph finished second (2:01.65)  and Pittman third (2:01.71) – barely more than one second behind the winner, Hillsborough High School Senior Nicholas McFarland (2:00.24) – while Senior Ross Clarke finished fifth (2:05.09).

Junior Jamar Pelzer finished fourth in the 55 meter hurdles (8.82).

In the shot put, Sophomore David Anderson finished fourth (42’ 11.25”) and Lockhart finished eighth (39’ 6.75”).

The novice division win was led by first-place finished by Sophomore Dakari Falconer in the 200 meter dash (24.89) and Freshman William Hill in the 1,600 meter run (5:12.01).

Sophomore Christopher Jenkins finished fourth in the 200 meter dash (26.13), while Freshman Avinash Maniam finished 14th in the 1,600 meter run (5:34.83).

Junior Nathaniel Gravesand placed third in the 800 meter run (2:25.27).

In the shot put, Freshman Tobechi Alade placed fourth (29’ 5.5”) and Sophomore Zachary Racine finished 15th (25’ 5”).

The girls’ varsity team finished fourth, as did the novice team.
