Township Residents Among 2016 Ebony Suburbanite Debutantes

Five township residents were among 14 debutantes presented on June 5 by The Ebony Suburbanites.

Kaiya Davis, Tyler Drew, Taylor Jordan, Atiyona Kinston and Taema Reid were among the students awarded more than $40,000 in college scholarships at the annual Silhouettes of Loveliness Debutante Cotillion held in the Bridgewater Marriott.

The Ebony Suburbanites is comprised of 25 women who are committed to promoting scholarship, developing character, civic mindedness and leadership in youth throughout Middlesex and Somerset counties, according to a release about the event.

At the annual Silhouettes of Loveliness Debutante Cotillion, young women are presented to society by highlighting their academic achievements, community involvement and intent to pursue higher education, according to the release. All debutantes are recommended by their guidance counselors, their clergy and community leaders. This process starts in the beginning of the year and consists of various programs, cultural events, and Community service events.

To date, the Ebony Suburbanites has awarded more than $1.1 million in scholarships to more 650 debutantes, according to the release.
