Township Man Charged With Attempted Murder In June Shooting

A 22-year-old township man has been arrested on attempted murder and weapons charges in connection with a June 23 shooting on Reler Avenue.

Police said Christopher Williams was in a parked car near buildings 26 and 28 on Reler, which is in the Somerset Mews development off Route 27, when he was approached by a 23-year-old South Brunswick man. An argument ensued, and Williams allegedly shot the man, police said.

The investigation identified Williams as the shooter, according to a press release from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office.

On June 28, detectives from the Somerset County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit and the Franklin Township Police Department executed a search warrant on Williams’ home, where he was arrested. A handgun was also recovered, police said.

Williams was charged with 1st Degree Attempted Murder, 2nd Degree a Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, 2nd Degree Unlawful Possession of a Handgun, and 4th Degree Possession of a Defaced Handgun, according to the release. Williams was lodged in the Somerset County Jail, Somerville, pending a detention hearing.
