Township Man Charged In Plainfield Resident’s Death

An early morning car accident Jan. 22 resulted in the death of one man, and the arrest of a 25-year-old Franklin resident.

Suraj Gagneja, of Somerset, was charged with 2nd Degree Death by Auto, 4th Degree Assault by Auto, and Driving While Intoxicated in connection with the death of Antoine King Jr., 22, of Plainfield, according to a press release from the Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office.

The investigation, which began after police we called at about 3:40 a.m. to respond to a crash on West 4th Street, Piscataway, revealed that Gagneja was driving his 2006 Ford Explorer when King grabbed onto the outside of the vehicle, according to the release.

Gagneja lost control of the car, hit a tree and “caused the victim to receive massive head and neck injuries resulting in his death,” according to the release.

The investigation is active, according to the release. Anyone with information is asked to call Piscataway Police Officer Hakeem Abdullah at (732) 562-1100, or Middlesex County Prosecutor’s Office Detective Donald Heck at (732) 745-8842.
