Somerset Patriots To Host Garden State Agricultural Night On August 15th

Bridgewater, NJ – The Somerset Patriots will be hosting a Garden State Agricultural Night at TD Bank Ballpark for the game on Thursday, August 15th. The game is presented by RWJBarnabas Health, who will be giving away Potted Plants to the first 1,000 fans in attendance.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm against the Lancaster Barnstormers, but the event will begin with a Farmer’s Market outside the ballpark from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm. Vendors from all over New Jersey and surrounding states will be on site with food and other products. Scheduled to appear are Dogwood Farms, Melick’s Town Farm, American Dairy Association, and The Shoppes at the Farm.

Other pre-game activities include a tractor display in the Red Lot located on the first base side of the ballpark. Check out refurbished tractors that help the agriculture in New Jersey grow and participate in the Best Tractor Contest by voting between 5:00 pm and 7:00 pm.

The game features a special appearance by Peter Napolitano, better known as “Produce Pete.” The widely known grocer, chef and spokesperson makes weekly appearances on WNBC in New York and WCAU in Philadelphia. “Produce Pete” has published multiple books that include recipes and tips pertaining to picking, buying, and cooking produce.

“Produce Pete” will address the crowd from the field at 6:45 pm and then throw out the ceremonial “first peach” of the game. He will then be available to meet fans at the Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey table on the main concourse during the game.

The New Jersey Department of Agriculture will also be on site with a fresh produce cart for fans to pick up Jersey Fresh produce items and goodies.

“The New Jersey Department of Agriculture reminds you that we are in the height of the Jersey Fresh growing season,” said Thomas Beaver, Director of NJDA’s Division of Marketing and Development. “All your favorite, ripe and ready Jersey Fresh fruits and vegetables are available now at your favorite market, and even at the ballpark to watch the Somerset Patriots. Real…Local…Jersey Fresh.”

Special concessions items available will be corn dipped in butter with spices and Jersey Fresh peaches at the Horizon Healthy Plate Concession Stand. Horizon members can get a peach for free in the “Show Your Blue” membership program by showing their insurance card at the stand.

Throughout the game, fans will enjoy country music and several theme-related activities including a blueberry pie-eating contest presented by Melick’s Town Farm
