Somerset Patriots LHP Darin Gorski’s Contract Purchased By New York Mets
Bridgewater, NJ- The Somerset Patriots have announced that left-handed starting pitcher Darin Gorski’s contract was purchased by the New York Mets organization. He will report to the Triple-A Las Vegas 51’s where he is expected to start Friday night’s game.
Gorski returns to the same organization where he spent seven seasons of his professional career. The southpaw pitched with Triple-A Las Vegas in 2013, 2014 and 2015, including 27 starts with the 51’s last year.
The Mount Joy, Pennsylvania native has made 11 starts with the Somerset Patriots this season, posting a 4-2 record with a 3.88 ERA. His 60.1 innings of work so far this year are second on the team, behind lefty Jeremy Horst, whose contract was purchased earlier in the season by Vaqueros Laguna of the Mexican League.
Gorski made waves in the Mets organization in 2011, when he earned Florida State League Pitcher of the Year honors. That season, he posted an 11-3 record and led the league in ERA (2.08), WHIP (1.00) and finished third in strikeouts (140).
The 2009 seventh-round draft pick by the Mets marks the second Somerset Patriots player to have his contract purchased by a Major League organization this year. The Los Angeles Dodgers purchased Gus Schlosser’s contract earlier this season, and had him report to Triple-A Oklahoma City. Outfielder Brad Snyder also had his contracted purchased by Vaqueros Laguna in the Mexican League.
Last year, there were seven different players who had their contracts purchased by Major League organizations: Edwin Quirarte (San Francisco Giants), Mickey Storey (Los Angeles Dodgers), Chris Marrero (Chicago White Sox), Sean Bierman (Baltimore Orioles), Lucas Irvine (Arizona Diamondbacks), Connor Little (Atlanta Braves) and Buddy Boshers (Minnesota Twins). Boshers recently received a call up to Major League Baseball with the Twins.
